Oscar 2014

The American Film Academy has announced the nominees for the "Oscar "(which will be held March 2) - the most famous and influential global film industry award . As expected, the largest number of awards claim films " Gravity ", " American Hustle " and " 12 years a slave". In this post I'll pay close attention to the main category - Best Picture (only 4 movies).

12 Years A Slave - directed by Steve McQueen
The history of free African-American musician Nortapa Solomon , who was deceived and sold into slavery , with nine nominations is considered one of the favourites along with " Gravity " and "American Hustle". The movie has already been awarded with " Golden Globe " for best dramatic film.  However , over the past ten years opinions of the American Academy and Foreign Press Association came together only four times . Both awards received " The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King ", " Slumdog Millionaire ," " The Artist" and "Operation " Argo " .

I still haven't seen this one, but it's definitely on my watch list!

American Hustle - directed by David O. Russel
It seems that David O. Russell has become one of the main favourites of Academy Award. "American Hustle" repeated last year's success tragicomedy "Silver Linings Playbook" (loved it!) and received nominations in all major categories, including four actors. "Silver Linings Playbook" eventually took only one statuette. Let's see...

Watch list!

Gravity - directed by Alfonso Cuaron
One of the most memorable movies of the year gathered in worldwide box office $ 675 million and rushed in pursuit of the "Oscar" with ten nominations, being an absolute favourite in the technical categories. Although, all of the major 3D-hits from the last years never won in this category ("Avatar," "Hugo" and last year's "Life of Pi" as a result of losing to a smaller-scale projects), "Gravity" has all the chances to make a difference.

I was really engaged with the movie and really liked it, but i doubt that it will win in this category.
P.S. last 30 minutes were just beyond epic!

Dallas Buyers Club - directed by Jean-Marc Vallee
The stark drama from Canadian director Jean-Marc Vallee, which flashed Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto, was considered one of the favourites in the acting categories initially, but only few people thought that the movie will qualify and for the main nomination. Nevertheless, the American Academy, which also has a weakness for movies based on true stories, made its choice in favour of the drama, and the choice, without a doubt, deserved.

Watch list! must see!

Two films competing for the "Oscar" in the category "Best Picture", were first shown at the Venice Film Festival: Gravity" and "Philomena".
